Bighorn River, Montana - Fishing Report
January
11, 2017
The uppermost section of the tailwater is in good shape. The water is much
warmer but it looses it warmth fast, the further you go downstream. Often, the
problem isn't catching trout as much as it is getting there to fish, which
depends on the road conditions. That shouldn't be the cast this coming week.

Stream Conditions:

7 Day Weather Forecast:
There is a chance of snow ending today and then clear  for the next week..
Highs will range from 1
8 to 33 degrees and lows from 3 to 16 degrees.

Recommended Trout Flies:
Strategies, Techniques and Tips:
The Black Matuka and Olive Matuka Sculpin are good flies to use for the larger
trout. The Brown sculpin and White Belly sculpin streamers are great flies to
use at this time. Scuds and sowbugs are available year-round.
Various species of Blue-winged olives will hatch off and on this winter. Fish the
nymphs in the morning, emergers and duns when hatching and spinners late
afternoons.
Midges are always important insects to imitate on the Bighorn.
Winter stoneflies are hatching.
Black flies are hatching.
