Bighorn River, Montana - Fishing Report

The discharges and stream levels are down some, making it easy to fish from a
drift boat. The river is still to high to wade in most places one can normally
wade at this time of the year. The levels continue to get better.

Highs will range from 76 to 82 degrees and lows from 50 to 59 degrees.



Recommended Trout Flies:
Strategies, Techniques and Tips:
The Black Matuka and Olive Matuka Sculpin are good flies to use for the larger
trout. The Brown sculpin and White Belly sculpin streamers are great flies to
use at this time. Scuds and sowbugs are available year-round.
Various species of Blue-winged olives will hatch off and on this winter. Fish the
nymphs in the morning, emergers and duns when hatching and spinners late
afternoons
Pale Morning Duns are hatching.
Green Sedges (caddisflies) and Spotted Sedges (caddisflies) are hatching. .
Midges are always important insects to imitate on the Bighorn.
Terrestrials are becoming important food for the trout - hoppers, carpenter ants
and Japanese beetles.
