The Dark Red Quill is the ramaleyi species of the Cinygmula
genus. It is a western mayfly species that hatch from early to
mid-summer. These are clinger nymph mayflies that prefer the
moderate to fast water of freestone streams. They can be very
important on some streams. Trout eat them in all stages of life.
At times the most important thing about them is that during the
time they are hatching, they may be the only mayfly hatching.
You want find them from one end of the stream to the other in
most cases. They will be concentrated in spots with the right
types of water and there may be large quantities of them.
