Frying Pan River, Colorado - Fishing Report -
September 22, 2017
The discharges and stream levels are still a little to high for safe wading in places.
Many can be waded with caution. There are some low temperatures ahead this
week and that may get rid of most of the terrestrails.
7 Day Weather Forecast: There is a chance of rain through Sunday, then
clearing. Highs will range from 56 to 61 and lows 26 to 42.
Recommended Trout Flies:
Strategies, Techniques and Tips:
We still think the best strategy is to fish a tandem Midge rig under a small strike
indicator with the midge lava as the bottom fly and the midge pupa as the top fly. Fish
the adult midge only when you observe trout feeding on the surface. For larger trout,
the Brown Sculpin and White Belly Sculpin streamers are great flies.
Midges will just about always work on the Frying Pan.
Blue-winged olives are hatching.
Spotted sedge (caddis) and Green Sedges (caddis) are hatching.
Aquatic Worms are also working good.
Terrestrials such as Japanese beetles, Carpenter ants and Hoppers may be important
