Little Red River, Arkansas - Fishing Report -
November 29, 2016
The river is still in good shape. We didn't receive any reports from anyone fishing
this past week, but that doesn't mean it wasn't good, only that few anglers are
fishing. Midges, creams and reds, with the larva and pupa imitations fished in
tandem, should be the best fly setup.
7 Day Weather Forecast: There is a chance of rain on Saturday and Sunday,
otherwise clear for the next week. Highs will range from 53 to 67 degrees and lows
from 33 to 43 degrees.
Recommended Trout Flies:
Midges: Blood (Red), sizes 20, larva, pupa and adults
Midges: Cream, size 20, larva, pupa and adults
Midges: Light Green, size 20/22, larva, pupa and adults
Sow Bugs: 16
Black Matuka and Olive Matuka Sculpin, size 4/6
Brown Sculpin and White Belly Sculpin, size 6
Cinnamon Caddis, size 16/18, larva, pupa and adults
Winter Stoneflies, size 16 and 18, nymphs and adults
Strategies, Techniques and Tips:
The Black Matuka and Olive Matuka Sculpin are good flies to use for the larger size
trout. The Brown and White Belly Sculpin streamers are always a good choice. They
work best under low light conditions or in off color water.
Scuds and Sow Bugs are available for the trout to eat year-round.
Cinnamon Caddis are starting to hatch.
Winter Stoneflies should begin to hatch anytime now.
We still think the best strategy is to fish a tandem Midge rig under a small strike
indicator with the midge lava as the bottom fly and the midge pupa as the top fly. Fish
the adult midge only when you observe trout feeding on the surface.
