South Fork Snake River, Idaho - Fishing Report -
October 20, 2016
The river is in good shape and we received one good report from a customer
this past week. The river isn't crowded by any means, yet it is a good time to
be fishing there. October caddis are hatching in some sections and
Blue-winged olive hatches have been great.
7 Day Weather Forecast: There is a chance of rain from next Monday
through Wednesday, otherwise clear. Highs will range from 50 to 61 degrees
and lows from 30 to 39 degrees.
Recommended Trout Flies:
Midges: Blood (Red), sizes 20/22, larva, pupa and adults
Midges: Light Green, size 20/22, larva, pupa and adults
Midges: Cream, size 20/22, larva pupa and adults
Blue-winged Olives: size 16/18, nymph, emergers, duns and spinners

Strategies, Techniques and Tips:
The White Belly and Brown Sculpin streamers are good flies to use for the larger size
trout. The Black Matuka and Olive Matuka sculpin streamers are also good flies to use
for the larger fish.
Blue Winged Olives hatch on warm, cloudy days.
Midges hatch year round.
Spotted Sedges, or caddisflies, are hatching.
October Caddis are hatching.
Japanese Beetles, Carpenter Ants, and Grasshoppers are going to become more and
more important foods to imitate as the summer goes on.
