South Holston River, Tennessee - Fishing Report -
December 08, 2017
The discharges and stream levels continue to be great for wading anglers. We
received two more good reports from customers fishing this past week. Midges, cream
and reds, are the main insects to imitate but there are some BWO hatches as well.
7 Day Weather Forecast: There is a chance of snow through Saturday and again
next Tuesday through Thursday. Highs will be 36 to 47 and lows from 22 to 30 degrees.
Recommended Trout Flies:
Blue-winged Olives: size 16/18 nymph, emergers, duns and spinners
Brown Sculpin and White Belly Sculpin, size 6
Midges: Blood (Red), sizes 20/22, larva, pupa and adults
Midges: Light Green, size 20/22, larva, pupa and adults
Midges: Cream, size 20/22, larva pupa and adults
Aquatic Worms, size 12, pink, red, and others
Strategies, Techniques and Tips:
Be sure to check the TVA release schedule shown above. If no turbines are running,
you can wade the stream. If one is running, you can wade the stream in places but
floating it would be the preferred method.
Hatches of various species of Blue-winged Olives are possible in the afternoons and
more likely and in greater quantities if the skies are cloudy or overcast.
Fish the Brown Sculpin and White Belly Sculpin streamers anytime.
Midges are hatching. Fish the larva and pupa imitations in tandem for the best results.
Aquatic worms are working.
