Fishing Report - Spruce Creek, Pennsylvania -
August 20, 2017
The stream is in good shape in all sections. Stream levels are normal and wading
safe and easy most places. There are some very good fish being caught. We had
two good reports from customers, both locals and both with some nice browns.
There are still some hatches and terrestrials are working good.
7 Day Weather Forecast: There is a chance of rain on Tuesday and Wednesday,
otherwise clear. Highs will range from 77 to 86 and lows from 75 to 88 degrees.
Recommended Trout Flies:
Levels: Near a normal level
Afternoon Water Temperature: 57
Strategies, Techniques and Tips:
Our Brown Sculpin and White Belly sculpin are great flies for the entire fall and winter seasons.
The Olive Matuka Sculpin and Black Matuka Sculpin are good flies to use at this time.
Scuds are available for the trout to eat year-round. So are sowbugs.
Fish the larva and pupa in tandem for the best results.
Blue-winged olives are hatching.
Slate Drakes are hatching.
Cinnamon Caddis are hatching. Green Sedges (caddisflies) are hatching.
Tricos are hatching.
Light Cahills are hatching.
Little Yellow stoneflies are hatching.
Terrestrials are starting to work good - Japanese Beetles, Carpenter ants, and grass hoppers.
