White River, Arkansas - Fishing Report -
April 25, 2017
The discharges and stream levels are back up a little high. We recommend
section A under these conditions, or at least that is where the most recent reports
are coming from. The discharges have been higher. Thee is more rain on the
way, so make sure you check the schedule.
7 Day Weather Forecast: There is a chance of rain from Wednesday through
next Sunday, otherwise clear. Highs will range from 68 to 77 degrees and lows
from 43 to 63 degrees.
Recommended Trout Flies:
Midges: Blood (Red), sizes 20/22, larva, pupa and adults
Midges: Cream, size 20/22, larva, pupa and adults
Midges: Light Green, size 20/22, larva, pupa and adults
Sow Bugs: 16
Black Matuka and Olive Matuka Sculpin, size 4/6
Brown Sculpin and White Belly Sculpin, size 6
Little Black Caddis, size 18, pupa and adults
Spotted Sedges (caddis), size 14/16, larva, pupa and adults
Cinnamon Caddis, size 16/18, larva, pupa and adults
Little Brown Stoneflies, size 14, nymphs and adults
Giant Black Stoneflies, siize 4 and 6, nymphs and adults
Strategies, Techniques and Tips:
The Black Matuka and Olive Matuka Sculpin streamers are good flies to use for the
larger size trout, especially during low light conditions and when the water is running
high or off color. The Brown Sculpin and White Belly sculpin are consistently the best
streamers to use on the White.
Scuds and sow bugs are available for the trout to eat year-round.
Little Black caddis are hatching. Spotted Sedges, or caddis, are hatching.
Cinnamon Caddis are hatching.
Little Brown Stoneflies are hatching.
Giant Black Stoneflies are hatching.
We still think a good strategy is to fish a tandem Midge rig under a small strike
indicator with the midge lava as the bottom fly and the midge pupa as the top fly. Fish
the adult midge only when you observe trout feeding on the surface.
