White River, Arkansas - Fishing Report -
October 17, 2017
The river has provided some opportunity for drift boats this past week. We had
one good report from a customer this past week. There are some good
Blue-winged olive hatches taking place.
7 Day Weather Forecast: There is a chance of rain on Saturday and Sunday,
otherwise clear for this coming week. Highs will range from 69 to 76 degrees and
lows from 47 to 57 degrees.
Recommended Trout Flies:
Midges: Blood (Red), sizes 20/22, larva, pupa and adults
Midges: Cream, size 20/22, larva, pupa and adults
Midges: Light Green, size 20/22, larva, pupa and adults
Sow Bugs: 16
Aquatic Worms, size 12, pink, red, and others
Black Matuka and Olive Matuka Sculpin, size 4/6
Brown Sculpin and White Belly Sculpin, size 6
Mahogany duns, 18, nymphs, emergers, duns and spinners
Cinnamon Caddis, size 16/18, larva, pupa and adults
Strategies, Techniques and Tips:
The Black Matuka and Olive Matuka Sculpin streamers are good flies to use for the
larger size trout, especially during low light conditions and when the water is running
high or off color. The Brown Sculpin and White Belly sculpin are consistently the best
streamers to use on the White.
Scuds and sow bugs are available for the trout to eat year-round.
Aquatic worms are working.
Spotted Sedges, or caddis, are hatching.
Cinnamon Caddis are hatching.
We still think a good strategy is to fish a tandem Midge rig under a small strike
indicator with the midge lava as the bottom fly and the midge pupa as the top fly. Fish
the adult midge only when you observe trout feeding on the surface
