Fly Fishing Gear, Tackle and Trout Flies - Bald Eagle Creek
We are recommending a 4 or 5 weight, floating fly line for all of the fishing. There are some
anglers that prefer a 6 weight fly floating fly line for heavier nymphs and streamers.
Leaders should range in sizes from a 0X for streamers up to a 6X for midges and small dry
flies. Lengths ranging from nine feet up to twelve feet in length are suggested.
Extra tippet material ranging from 0X to 6X should be available for the leaders we list above.
We suggest either a 4, 5 or 6 weight fly rod for each line size you choose to fish. That will
handle about anything you will catch from Bald Eagle Creek. It should have a medium fast to
fast action and be nine feet in length.
The fly reel you use for the 4, 5 or 6 weight line should be light and have good drags,
preferably disc drags, There are some 18 inch brown trout in Bald Eagle Creel. You don't want
to loose a nice brown trout because of a poor or rough operating drag.
Much of the bottom in the upper part is soft. I wouldn't want to wade without waders even if the
water was warm enough. You would be handicapped severely without them.
Felt soles would be our choice. The new rubber soles may work well. We haven't tried them
The water is not really bad enough for us to say a wading staff should be used. We would call
We recommend our on "Perfect Fly" Trout Flies. We have specific imitations of all the insects,
crustaceans and other things that fish feed on in Bald Eagle Creek. They are not only the
most realistic flies you can buy, they are the most effective at catching trout. The wild browns
in lower Bald Eagle Creek are selective to the insects that are available at the time and
matching nymphs/larvae and the hatch is often necessary to catch them. If you haven't done
so already, we recommend you give them a try. There are the most realistic and effective trout
flies you can use on any spring creek.
