Fly Fishing Gear, Tackle and Trout Flies - Big Cove Creek
We are recommending a 4 or 5 weight, floating fly line for all of the fishing on Big Cove Creek.
There are those anglers would prefer a 6 weight fly floating fly line for heavier nymphs and
streamers and that is also just fine.
Leaders should range in sizes from a 0X for streamers up to a 6X for midges and small dry
flies. Lengths ranging from nine feet up to twelve feet in length are suggested.
Extra tippet material ranging from 0X to 6X should be available for the leaders we list above.
We suggest either a 4, 5 or 6 weight fly rod for each line size you choose to fish. It should
have a medium fast to fast action and be nine feet in length.
The fly reel you use for the 4, 5 or 6 weight line should be light and have good drags,
preferably disc drags.
I wouldn't want to wade without waders even if the water was warm enough.
Felt soles would be our choice. The new rubber soles may work well. We haven't tried them
We would call a wading staff optional.
A landing net would be purely optional.
We recommend "Perfect Fly" Trout Flies. We have specific imitations of everything that exist
in Big cove Creek that the trout eat. The flies are not only as realistic as you will find on the
commercial market, they are the most effective at catching trout. Our imitations of specific
species of mayfly nymphs emergers, duns and spinners are very effective.. If you haven't
done so already, please give them a try.
