Fly Fishing Gear, Tackle and Trout Flies for Big Spring Creek
You need gear ranging from light fly line for dry flies, to heavier line for streamers and
nymphs fly fishing Big Spring Creek. You could get by with a five weight outfit for just about
everything if you needed to.

Fly Line:
We are recommending a 4 or 5 weight, floating fly line for all of the fishing for Big Spring
Creek. There are those anglers would prefer a 6 weight fly floating fly line for heavier
nymphs and streamers and that is also just fine.

Leaders should range in sizes from a 0X for streamers up to a 6X for midges and small dry
flies. Lengths ranging from nine feet up to twelve feet in length are suggested.

Extra tippet material ranging from 0X to 6X should be available for the leaders we list

Fly Rods:
We suggest either a 4, 5 or 6 weight fly rod for each line size you choose to fish.  It should
have a medium fast to fast action and be nine feet in length.

Fly Reels:
The fly reel you use for the 4, 5 or 6 weight line should be light and have good drags,
preferably disc drags.

I wouldn't want to wade without waders even if the water was warm enough.

Wading Boots:
Felt soles would be our choice. The new rubber soles may work well. We haven't tried
them there yet.

Wading Staff:
We would call a wading staff optional.

Landing Net:
A landing net is recommended, but not necessary. There are some very big trout in Big
Springs Creek and you wouldn't want to lose one because you didn't have a net.

Trout Flies:
Our "Perfect Flies" are the best ones you could possibly use for fly fishing Big Spring
Creek. We have flies to match every terrestrial and aquatic insect in all stages of life. If you
haven't done so already, please give them a try. You will be glad you did. The trout in this
spring creek can be very picky and very selective. Having good imitations of the insects
the trout see day in and day out is a big advantage.
