Fly Fishing Gear, Tackle and Flies for Castle Rock Creek,
We recommend a 4 or 5 weight, floating fly line for your dry fly fishing. You could get by
using a 5 weight floating fly line for just about all your fly fishing. Most anglers want a
heavier fly line for heavy nymphs and streamers. We prefer a 6 weight fly line for that.
We suggest a 4, 5 and 6 weight fly rod nine feet in length, in a medium fast to fast action.
The reels for the rods should be light and have smooth, decent drags. They should adjust
in fine increments.
We recommend at least a 7 and half foot leader anywhere you fish Castle Rock Creek.
You may prefer an even shorter leader for streamers. There are situations where you
would want to go up to 9 feet. I would suggest having them in sizes ranging from 1X for
streamers, up to 6X for small dry flies and midges, in both the 7 and half and 9 foot lengths.
You should carry extra tippet in sizes ranging from 1X to 6X.
Waders are necessary for Castle Rock Creek unless the water is warm enough for you to
wet wade. We prefer breathable waders.
Much of the bottom in either gravel, sand or rock. You do not want cleats. Felt soles are
the best. We are testing the new rubber soles out but do not have any comments about
them at the time.
We recommend our "Perfect Flies". We think they are the best trout flies you can
purchase. They have been tested on the wild brown trout of the Castle Rock Creek by our
customers and have proven very effective there. If you haven't already tried them, we
certainly hope you will. You want be disappointed.
