Fly Fishing Gear for the Chattahoochee (Hooch) River
We recommend either a 5 or 6 weight floating fly line for fly fishing the
Cattahoochee River tailwater. You may want sinking tip lines of various weights for
streamers but a floating line works for most the fishing.
We recommend a medium-fast to fast action fly rod that is 9 feet in length.
The fly reel used should be for either the 5 or 6 weight line should have a very
good drag. We prefer disc drags but there are other types that will work as well.
Leaders should be a size 0X to 6X and range from 71/2 to 12 feet in length. Long
leaders are often required.
You should have spare tippet in 0X to 6X.
Waders are needed for fly fishing the Chattahoochee River tailwater. We prefer the
Wading boots should either by felt soles or the new rubber soles if you prefer.
A landing net is strictly optional but we do recommend using one.
Perfect Fly trout flies prove their net worth fly fishing anywhere. We have several
customers who regularly fish the Chattahoochee River that use our flies and for
darn good reasons. They catch trout. They closely imitate all the real aquatic
insects, crustaceans that are in the stream. Our scud, sowbug, BWOs in all life
cycles, black flies in all life cycles (you can't get anywhere else), midge flies, and
streamer selection will provide you the best opportunity to catch Hooch trout.
