West Fork of the Chattooga River - Gear, Tackle and Trout Flies
We recommend either a 4, 5 and 6 weight, floating fly line for fly fishing the West Fork of the
Chattooga River Georgia.
We recommend either a 4, 5 or 6 weight fly rod for the respective line size you choose to
use. The 4 weight fly rod should bi a medium action, 8 to 9 foot fly rod. The 5 weight fly rod
should in a medium to med-fast action and a 8 to 9 foot length. The 6 weight fly rod should
be a medium-fast to fast action for large nymphs and light streamers. It should be at least 9
foot in length.
The fly reel used should be for each of the 4, 5 and 6 weight lines you use and each have a
very good drag. We prefer disc drags but there are other types that will work as well. It
should be smooth.
Leaders should range in sizes from a 0X for streamers up to a 6X for midges and small dry
flies. Lengths ranging from seven and one-half feet up to 12 feet are suggested.
We suggest that you have extra tippet material in sizes ranging from 0X to 6X.
There are a few areas you will be able to fish without waders but you will need them most
We recommend felt soles for your wading boots.
A wading staff would be purely optional.
A landing net is another optional item.
Perfect Flies are recommend because they are the best trout flies you can purchase. We
have specific imitations of every food that exist in the West Fork of the Chattooga River. If
you haven't already tried Perfect Flies, we certainly hope you will. You will find they are very
