Fly Fishing Gear, Tackle and Trout Flies - Chestatee River
We recommend a 4 weight, floating fly line for those that prefer lighter tackle. We
recommend a 5 weight, floating fly line for dry flies and small nymphs for the major part
of the river. Many anglers may prefer a 6 weight floating fly line for heavier nymphs and
streamers. You may also want a sinking tip line for streamers in the 6 weight line.
Leaders should range in sizes from a 0X for streamers up to a 6X for midges and small
dry flies. Lengths ranging from seven and one-half feet up to 12 feet are suggested.
We suggest that you have extra tippet material in sizes ranging from 0X to 6X.
We think the 4, 5 and 6 weight fly rods should have a moderately fast to fast action and
be nine feet in length.
The fly reels for the 4, 5 and 6 weight fly lines should be light and have a good smooth
drags. We think disc drags are the best.
Waders are recommended.
We recommend felt soles for your wading boots.
A wading staff would be purely optional.
A landing net is another optional item.
Perfect Fly trout flies prove their benefit from coast to coast. They closely imitate all the
real aquatic insects, crustaceans that are in the Chestatee River and it's tributaries. We
have specific imitations of all the mayflies, including March Browns, Quill Gordons,
Blue-winged Olives and others as well as imitations of the Cinnamon Caddisflies, Little
Sisters and Spotted Sedges. If you haven't given them a try, we hope you will do so in
the near future. We are certain you will be well satisfied with the results.
