Fly Fishing The Fraser River Colorado
This river starts near the continental divide on the west
side of Berthoud Pass near Winter Park in the
Roosevelt National Forest. It's a tributary of the
Colorado River. Its first eight miles flows in the national
forest where it is accessible, but a rather small stream.
Like most headwater streams, the Fraser River
provides fast action from smaller trout that makes it
worth fishing.

The river flows from Winter Park to Fraser and is
generally accessible except on private property in
Winter Park. From Winter Park to near Granby where it
meets the Colorado River, the stream flows parallel
highway #40.

The Fraser River trail follows the stream and there are
also some campgrounds with access to the stream.
From Fraser on downstream you will find few places to
access the river. It is accessible in the Fraser Canyon
below Tabernash. You can fish it at the Sol Vista
Resort/Granby Ranch by purchasing a permit or as a
guest. This is a golf resort.

Seasons:
The fishing season is year-round but the Fraser Valley
is one of the coldest spots in Colorado.
Winter:
As you may expect, fishing the Fraser River in the
winter would be hit and miss, mostly miss.
Spring:
Springtime is a good time if you avoid the runoff.
Summer:
Except for the end of the runoff, summertime is the
best time to fish the Fraser because the water levels
are good and the hatches plentiful.
Fall:
Early fall can be a good time for fly fishing the Frazer
River.
