Fly Fishing Gear for Grayling Creek (YNP)
The trout in Grayling Creek are mostly cutbows that usually range from six to twelve inches
We recommend a 4 or 5 weight forward, floating fly line for this stream. You would probably
prefer a 5 weight fly line for small streamers and nymphs.
You should have leaders ranging from a 71/2 foot to a 9 foot tapered leader in sizes
ranging from 1X for streamers up to a 6X for midges and tiny flies.
Carry extra tippet material ranging in sizes from 3x to 6X.
The fly rod for the 4 or 5 weight line should be nine feet long, in a medium fast to fast
The fly reel should be light. A clicker drag is fine but it is always best if you have a good,
Waders are not required but recommended for Grayling Creek, especially in the lower
section of the stream. We prefer the breathable type.
Felt soled wading boots are our choice. We are testing the new rubber sole wading boots
but have no recommendation as of this date.
A landing net is purely optional.
Our "Perfect Flies" are the best choice for Grayling Creek. We have flies to match every
terrestrial and aquatic insect in all stages of life as well as generic and attractor flies. If you
