Fly Fishing Hickory Run Pennsylvania
Hickory Run is a small freestone tributary of the Lehigh
River. It's located in Northeastern Pennsylvania in the
Pocono Mountains and flows for about five miles through
Hickory Run State Park. It has wild brown and brook
trout. Fly fishing Hickory Run is a pure pleasure for any
avid small stream angler.
There's a catch and release section that's 1.6 miles long
running from State Route #534 from Sand Spring Run to
the mouth of the stream. There's a very good population
of both wild browns and brook trout in the Catch and
Release Area and it offers excellent fly fishing
opportunities.
This is a very small stream consisting mostly of riffles
and runs. There are some pools. Most of the upper part
of the creek is very small and tightly enclosed. The lower
section probably averages about twenty-feet in width.
The entire stream is well protected from the sun by an
overhead canopy of limbs from trees that provide plenty
of shade during the warmer months of the year.
The little stream also has a good population of aquatic
insects that helps maintain the good population of wild
trout. Dry fly fishing is usually very good during the
spring and fall months. Terrestrial imitations work well
during the Summer.
Access to Hickory Run is easy. State Route #534
crosses the creek just above the Catch and Release
area. A good trail follows the creek its entire distance in
Hickory Run State Park.

The season is the standard Pennsylvania trout season.
Spring:
Springtime is a good time for fly fishing Hickory Run due
to the hatches.
Summer:
Fly fishing Hickory Run can be challenging during the
Summertime. The water gets low and clear..
