Fly Fishing Gear, Tackle and Trout Flies - Jacobs Fork Creek North
We recommend a 4 or 5 weight, floating fly line for most all of the fly-fishing on Jacobs Fork
Creek. You may want to use a 6 weight fly line for nymphs and streamers.
I would suggest a rod for the 4, 5 and 6 weight lines if you choose to use them. The rods
should be nine feet in length in a medium to medium fast action.
The reels for the four, five and six weight rods should have decent drags. They should be
smooth.A disc drag that adjust in fine increments would be best.
You should probably be using at least a 7 and half foot leader anywhere you fish Jacobs Fork
Creek. There are situation where you would want to go up to 9 feet. I would suggest having
them in sizes ranging from 1X for streamers, up to 6X for small dry flies and midges, in both the
7 and half and 9 foot lengths.
You should have extra tippet in sizes ranging from 1X to 6X.
We suggest you wear waders anytime you fish Jacobs Fork Creek. We prefer the breathable
Felt soles would be our first choice. The new rubber soles may also work well. We have not
tested them there.
We recommend "Perfect Fly" Trout Flies. The flies are not only as realistic as you will find on
the commercial market, they are the most effective at catching trout. Our imitations of specific
species of mayfly nymphs emergers, duns and spinners are very effective.
