Fly Fishing Gear for the Kennebago River Maine
Fly Line:
The salmon run from about an average of two pounds up to four pounds. We suggest a five
or six weight fly line. You may want a sinking tip or sinking line for early season fishing.
Fly Rod:
Either a five or six weight (we prefer a six weight) eight and a half to nine foot, medium fast to
fast action fly rod.
Fly Reel:
The fly reels needs to hold the 5 or 6 weight fly line and a hundred yards of backing. It should
have a very smooth drag.
Leaders:
You need short leaders in the early season but we suggest a range of tapered leaders from
1X to 6X, from seven and a half feet to nine feet in length.
Tippet:
Carry extra tippet material in sizes ranging from 1X to 7X.
Waders and Wading Boots:
There are many area you can wade. Waders and wading boots are suggested.
Salmon and Trout Flies:
We suggest our Perfect Fly line of streamers for the salmon. Flies that match the hatch can
be selected for the brook trout.
