Fly Fishing Laurel Hill Creek
Pennsylvania
Laurel Hill Creek is a 38 mile long tributary of the
Youghiogheny River located in southwestern
Pennsylvania. The stream drains the eastern slope of
the great Laurel Ridge. The river flows from above and
through Laurel Hill Lake located at Trent. The
headwaters are in Kooser & Laurel Hill State Parks.
State forest and game lands cover the western portions
of the drainage basin.
There's a special regulation area just over two miles
long located above the lake at Laurel Hill State Park.
Artificial lures and flies only may be used and trout
caught before June 15th must be released.
From Laurel Hill Lake downstream, the creek is a
moderately to slow flowing stream. Tributary streams
flowing out of Forbes State Forest increase the flow
along this section. Below the stream flows through a
gorge within State Game lands. Hiking is required to
reach most of this section. In our opinion, this is the best
section to fish but it does require more effort to reach
than most anglers put forth.
There's a special regulation area just over a mile long
that extends from a footbridge at Humbert on the #111
Road to the confluence of Paddytown Hollow Run.
Below Humbert the river is fairly large stream. It flows
through a valley with a moderate current and is easily
accessed from a nearby roads.
There's another special regulation area just over two
miles long that extends from the Boy Scout Camp at
Laurel Hill State Park downstream to T-364. Laurel Hill
Creek enters the Youghiogheny River, the tailwater of
which is covered under a separate section of this site.
