Little Colorado River Arizona Fly Fishing Guide - Gear, Tackle and
We recommend either a 3, 4 or 5 weight fly line for fly fishing the Little Colorado River in
Arizona. You only need floating fly lines. Sinking lines are not necessary.
We recommend either a 3, 4 or 5 weight fly rod for each line size if you use them all three or
whichever you do use for fishing the Little Colorado River. The 3 and 4 weight fly rods
should in a medium action and a 8 to 9 foot length. The 5 weight fly rod should be a
medium-fast to fast action for large nymphs and light streamers. It should be at least 9 foot
The fly reel used should be for each of the 3, 4 and 5 weight lines you use and each have a
very good drag. We prefer disc drags but there are other types that will work as well. It
should be smooth.
Leaders should size 2X to 6X and be from 9 to 12 feet long.
You should have spare tippet in 2X and 6X. Some anglers prefer fluorocarbon but mono is

Wading boots will be needed. We prefer felt soles but rubber soles may work well.
