Fly Fishing Little Nestucca River Oregon
The Little Nestucca River flows from its source in the
Coastal Mountain Range to Nestucca Bay on the coast of
Oregon. It's known for its winter steelhead trout, Coho
salmon, Chinook salmon and sea-run cutthroat trout. At
the present time, fishing for Coho salmon is not
permitted. Fall run Chinook salmon season is also closed.
Fly fishing the Little Nestucca River is a little different
from many coastal streams in Oregon because you need
a motor to go upstream in order to drift back
downstream. The boat launch is located near the U. S.
Highway #101 Bridge. You can drift downstream from
there into the bay but you will need power to get back to
the boat launch.
Above the bridge, the river is surrounded by private
farmland for about two miles upstream and there's not
any access. Above there you will find some access along
the Little Nestucca Road. In general, the upstream area
is good for steelhead fishing and the tidewater area best
for sea-run cutthroat trout fishing. The wild steelhead
fishing is catch and release only.
Season:
You can fish the Little Nestucca River year-round but it is
species dependent
Winter:
Winter is the best time to fish for the steelhead
Spring:
Spring fishing is limited to resident species
Summer:
Summer fishing is limited to resident species
Fall:
