Fly Fishing Gear, Tackle and Trout Flies - Little Pine Creek
Pennsylvania
Fly Line:
Although a 4 weight fly  line is fine, we recommend a 5 weight, floating fly line for most all of the
fly-fishing on Little Pine Creek. We recommend a 6 weight, floating fly line for nymph fishing
and streamers.

Fly Rod:
The four weight rod should be between eight and eight and a half feet in length. A medium
action works great. The five weight rod should be between eight and nine feet in length. A
medium to moderate action would be our choice. This would allow you to fish small flies Yet
protect fine tippets. The 6 weight rod would be best in a nine foot length and a medium fast
action. A slightly stiffer tip would help with the nymphs and streamers.

Fly Reel:
The reel for either of these rods should have a good drag. You don't want to hang a large
brown trout and loose it because of a lousy drag. Disc drags would be preferred.

Leaders:
You should be using at least a 9 foot leader anywhere on Little Pine Creek. A twelve foot
length or even longer length may be the right choice in some situations where the water is
smooth. You should have them in sizes ranging from 1X for streamers, up to 7X for small dry
flies. I wouldn't go any lighter on this stream.

Tippet:
Carry extra tippet material in sizes ranging from 1X to 7X.

Waders:
Although you can fish many areas from the bank, we suggest you wear waders anytime you
fish Little Pine Creek. We prefer the breathable type but the neoprene ones can help keep
you warm if you fish during the cold season.

Wading Boots:
Felt soles would be our first choice.

Flies:
Little Pine Creek has some great hatches of mayflies, stoneflies and caddis. We recommend
"Perfect Fly" Trout Flies.  We have specific imitations of everything that exist in Little Pine
Creek that the trout eat. The flies are not only as realistic as you will find on the commercial
market, they are the most effective at catching trout. If you haven't done so already, please
give them a try.
