Fly Fishing Gear, Tackle and Trout Flies - Little Piney Creek
The fly fishing can be done with a four, five or six weight floating, weight forward fly line.
A floating line works just fine for any type of fishing you do on Little Piney Creek.
You should have leaders ranging from size 1X for streamers up to 7X for midges. They
should range from seven and one-half feet to twelve feet in length with nine feet being
the most used length.
You should have spare tippet material in the same sizes as the leaders mentioned
We recommend a four or five weight fly rod for the dry fly fishing. It should be a slow to
medium action rod of eight and one half to nine feet in length. A six weight, nine foot
long fly rod in a medium fast action would work best for larger streamers and nymphs.
You need a rather stiff rod for nymph and streamer fishing.
The fly reels you use, 4, 5 or 6 weight, should have decent drags.
We recommend waders and prefer the breathable type.
A landing net would be a purely optional item.
We recommend "Perfect Flies" for Little Piney Creek. They are not only the most
realistic flies you can buy, they are the most effective ones you can use. We have
imitations of everything trout feed on in this stream. Our realistic flies work much better
than the standard, generic ones on spring creeks.
