Fly Fishing Gear, Tackle and Trout Flies for the Maury River
We are recommending a 4 or 5 weight, floating fly line for most all of the fishing.A 6 weight
floating fly line may be better for heavier nymphs and streamers. You could easily get by
with a 5 weight line in most situations.
Leaders should vary in sizes from a 0X for streamers up to a 6X for midges and small dry
flies. Lengths ranging from nine feet up to twelve feet in length are suggested depending on
the type of water and fly you use.
Extra tippet material ranging from 0X to 6X should be available for the leaders we list above.
We suggest either a 4, 5 or 6 weight fly rod for each line size you choose to fish. It should
have a medium fast to fast action and be nine feet in length.
The fly reel you use for the 4, 5 or 6 weight line should be light and have good drags,
preferably disc drags,
You would probably need waders on the Maury River. You can wet wade during the warmer
months. We recommend breathable waders.
Felt soles or rubber sole boots would work will on Madison Run. We prefer felt.
We would call this optional but is always a good idea on higher water. The stream is fairly
easy to wade in most places except on high water.
We recommend our "Perfect Flies". We think they are the best trout flies you can purchase.
If you haven't already tried them, we certainly hope you will. You won't be disappointed. You
may also notice that we sell high quality standard, generic and attractor flies at a very low
price. We invite you to give them an opportunity to produce for you.
