Fly Fishing Gear, Tackle and Trout Flies for the North Fork Coeur
d'Alene River Idaho
We recommend a 5 or 6 weight fly line for most of the fishing. A floating, weight forward
line is the most used and needed type of fly line. A sinking tip, sinking line and/or
shooting-head fly line comes in handy at times during cold weather .
We recommend the 5 or 6 weight fly rod in a medium-fast action that is 9 feet in length.
The fly reel used should be for either the 5 or 6 weight line should have a very good drag.
We prefer disc drags but there are other types that will work as well. Large arbor spools
are best in our opinion.
Leaders should be at least 8 foot long and vary in size from a 2X for streamers to a 6X for
You should have spare tippet in sizes compatible with the leader your using ranging from
2X to 6X.
Waders are necessary. We recommend the breathable type. If you fish during the cold
season, you may want to use neoprene waders.
Wading boots can have felt soles but some anglers may prefer rubber or non-felt soles.
A landing net is recommended but purely optional.
We have a complete line of flies for the North Fork Coeur d'Alene River. We have specific
