Fly Fishing Gear, Tackle and Trout Flies - Pequest River New York
The fly line we recommend for fly fishing the Pequest River is either a 4 or 5 weight floating
line. For nymphs and streamers we prefer a 6 weight fly line.
The fly rod should be a medium fast to fast action. We think nine feet is the best length.
The fly reel should have a good disc drag. The larger holder and wild browns can pull plenty of
line out as well as the better rainbow trout.
Leader for trout should be tapered and range from seven and a half to twelve feet long. They
should range from a 0X up to a 67X size.
You want to carry plenty of extra tippet material ranging in sizes from 0X up to 6X.
Waders are necessary for fly fishing the Pequest River. We prefer the breathable type. You
may want to have neoprene waders in the winter months.
Wading boots can currently have either felt or rubber soles.
A landing net is purely optional but recommended. There are some large trout in the Pequest
We recommend "Perfect Fly" Trout Flies. We have a huge selection of the best flies there are.
The trout flies are not only as realistic as you will find, they are the most effective at catching
trout. Our imitations of specific species of mayfly nymphs emergers, duns and spinners are
used by several of our customers on the Pequest River.. We also have a large selection of
generic and attractor flies for those that prefer them.
