Fly Fishing Gear, Tackle and Trout Flies - Strawberry River Utah
Fly Line:
There would be nothing wrong with a 4 weight, floating fly line if you wanted to go light.
You would probably want a 5 weight floating fly line for most of your fly fishing. Many
anglers that fish heavy nymphs and streamers would want a 6 weight fly line but it wouldn't
be absolutely necessary.

Fly Rod:
You may want a rod for each of the 4, 5 and 6 weight lines. The length of the rod or rods if
you use more than one, should be nine feet. We think a medium fast to fast action would
be best action.

Fly Reel:
The reels for the four, five and six weight rod should have decent drags. They should be
smooth. A disc drag that adjust in fine increments would be best.

Leaders:
You should probably be using at least a 7 and half foot leader anywhere you fish the
Strawberry River. There are situation where you would want to go up to 9 feet. I would
suggest having them in sizes ranging from 0X for streamers, up to 6X for small dry flies and
midges, in both the 7 and half and 9 foot lengths.

Tippet:
You should have extra tippet in sizes ranging from 0X to 6X.

Waders:
Waders are necessary. We recommend breathable wader except during the cold winter
when you may prefer neoprene waders.

Wading Boots:
Much of the bottom in either gravel, sand or rock. You would not want cleats. Felt soles are
the best.

Wading Staff:
The use of a wading staff would be an optional accessory.

Landing Net:
You probably shouldn't be fishing the Strawberry River without a landing net. Losing a
large brown trout wouldn't be fun..

Trout Flies:
We  recommend  "Perfect Fly" trout flies. We have specific imitations of every important
insect that exist in the Strawberry River, in each stage of its life that's applicable to fishing.
The wild brown trout can be very selective. We have regular customers who fish these two
tailwaters year-round using our flies. If you haven't already done so, we hope you will give
them an opportunity to work for you.
