Fly Fishing Gear for Tobyhanna Creek Pennsylvania
Fly Line:
We think a four weight floating fly line is all that is necessary for dry fly fishing Tobyhanna
Creek. You may want either a five or six weight fly line for larger nymphs and streamers.
Leaders:
We recommend you carry leaders ranging from 9 to 12 feet long, in sizes ranging from 3X to 7X.
The may need the long leaders in the slow sections of water.
Tippet:
Spare tippet material should be on hand for the above size leaders or 3X to 7X.
Fly Rod:
The fly rod for the 4 weight line should be a 4 weight, eight to eight and one-half feet, medium
action fly rod. The rod you use for streamers and larger nymphs should be a five or six weight,
eight to nine foot, medium to medium fast action rod.
Fly Reel:
We prefer light weight reels but that is purely optional. We do recommend a good drag.
Waders:
Waders are necessary for this stream. You may possibly wet wade in the hot summer, but that
would be the only time you didn't need waders. Even then, we recommend wading boots.
Trout Flies:
You can get by with generic and non-specific imitations when you are fishing the newly stocked
trout. Otherwise, we recommend our own "Perfect Flies". We have generics flies also and at a
very low price. We hope you check them out.
