Fly Fishing The Tye River Virginia
The Tye River is a 35 mile long tributary of the James
River located in central Virginia. It begins on the
eastern slopes of the Blue Ridge Mountains and is
formed by the confluence of the North and South Forks
of the Tye River.

The North Fork of the Tye River rises near the Blue
Ridge Parkway at Tye River Gap and flows about eight
miles to its confluence with the South Fork. The South
Fork of the Tye River also rises near the Blue Ridge
Parkway.

The Tye River has a "put & take" section and wild brook
trout in the upper parts and headwaters of the stream.
Trout are stocked in only a short section of the stream.

Access to the brook trout waters is from the Crabtree
Falls parking lot. There's a small parking fee for the lot.
There are some sections of private property in this
area, so be sure to take notice if you see any private
property signs.

Meadow Creek is a small tributary stream that enters
the Tye River near the Crabtree Falls Parking lot. It too,
provides some very good brook trout fishing
opportunities.

This stream has a very diverse and plentiful population
of aquatic insects, There are plenty of mayflies,
stoneflies and caddisflies as well as terrestrial insects,
sculpin and baitfish.
